FAQs
What’s the difference between REBT and CBT?
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) is a type of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that emphasises challenging irrational beliefs to reduce negative emotions and behaviours. While both therapies focus on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions, REBT specifically targets irrational beliefs as the root cause of emotional distress, whereas CBT takes a broader approach to identifying and modifying thought patterns. Both REBT and CBT are focused on your achievement of goals and provide lifelong tools and techniques you can use long after therapy finishes.
How do I know if therapy is working?
REBT/CBT is goal focused and effective no matter what you are seeking therapy for. We will constantly review progress to your goals and reflect on progress being made. Most clients start to see and feel the benefits of REBT/CBT after only a few sessions however this type of therapy is flexible and can be tailored if needed.
Why should I choose The Retail Therapist, there are lots of other therapists and approaches?
I have worked for nearly 30 years as a professional in the sector at all levels from trainee manager to senior leadership and executive management. If needed these interventions can be time focused for rapid progress. Your challenges will resonate with me and this kind of empathy I can offer will male all the difference to your therapy.
How Many Sessions Do I Need & how often?
Typically, CBT/REBT lasts between 6-20 sessions. Each online session lasts 50 minutes and will take place once a week or otherwise as agreed. Once you have made significant progress, we will discuss reducing the frequency to once every fortnight, once a month, etc. After treatment is completed, it is good practice to agree to a limited number of follow-up appointments to maintain the progress achieved. These can be scheduled once every three months, six months, etc. and will be arranged by mutual agreement.
Is it confidential, would work or family know?
Our sessions are completely confidential and bound by the NCPS code of ethics, there would never be a situation where work or family members would be made aware of our sessions or the content. In exceptional circumstances if I thought there was a danger to yourself or someone else I may contact emergency services however would always advise you of this in advance.
